Lyon wins bid for EuroGames 2025

Lyon has been chosen to host the EuroGames 2025, Europe’s leading multisport event promoting diversity and inclusion. The decision, announced last Sunday by the General Assembly of the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF), is the result of a close vote against London. Lyon 2025 aims to bring together between 4,000 and 5,000 athletes and visitors from all over Europe. “The EuroGames 2025 in Lyon will help bring together countries, communities and people who share the values of inclusion, diversity and tolerance, to promote a better society,” says Cédric Lemarié, President of CARGO, the largest LGBT+ sports organization in France.

Strong, inclusive local support

More than half of the 23 sporting competitions will be supported by the Office du Sport de Lyon (OSL) and traditional sports associations. Augustin Pesche, President of the OSL, expressed his astonishment at the overwhelming support from sports associations wishing to contribute to the Lyon EuroGames. “There is a profound trend towards improving diversity and inclusion in sport in general,” he declared. In addition, a partnership with the French Parasport Federation and France Paralympique guarantees maximum and optimal participation of disabled people in the event.

A cultural and social celebration

Beyond the sporting competitions, the EuroGames 2025 will feature a rich cultural program, supported by several renowned festivals in Lyon. Social and cultural events will be organized throughout the city from 2024 to promote the EuroGames and its values. “Lyon is extremely proud to be hosting the EuroGames in 2025! The values of inclusion and diversity are at the heart of our principles,” said Gregory Doucet, Mayor of Lyon. The EGLSF congratulates Lyon 2025, CARGO and the Fédération Française du Sport LGBT+ on their successful bid. EGLSF General Secretary Erika Patrikainen highlighted the close race between the two strong bids, highlighting the tremendous momentum for future EuroGames.
