EuroGames History
The origins of the EuroGames
The EuroGames, licensed by the European Gay & Lesbian Sports Federation (EGLSF), was created to provide a platform for LGBT+ athletes. Since its first edition in The Hague in 1992, this multi-sport event has become the largest sporting gathering in Europe for athletes of all sexual orientations and gender identities. The aim of the EuroGames is to fight discrimination in sport, promote inclusion and support LGBT+ athletes.
Lyon, chosen as host city
Lyon has been chosen to host the EuroGames in 2025 after a close competition against London. This choice of Lyon, commits us and honors us. It reflects the strong commitment of the city and its partners to promoting inclusion and diversity in the region. The announcement was made in 2022, confirming that Lyon had the infrastructure, community support and vision to host this major event.
EuroGames Past and Future
The EuroGames were held in a number of major European cities, each helping to raise the visibility of LGBT+ athletes. Cities like Berlin, Paris, Zurich and Rome welcomed thousands of athletes and spectators, creating unique moments and leaving a legacy in each of these cities. After Bern in 2023, Vienna in 2024 and Lyon in 2025, Cardiff will host the EuroGames in 2027, continuing the tradition of celebrating inclusive sport.
Team and Association Commitment
The EuroGames Lyon 2025 organization is supported by numerous associations and its members, including Cargo and the LGBT+ Sports Federation.
