🥋 Judo at EuroGames Lyon 2025: Strength, Technique, and Inclusion

Judo takes center stage at EuroGames Lyon 2025 with workshops and competitions held at the Gymnase Charial on July 25 and Gymnase Alice Milliat July 26. This Japanese martial art combines strength, technique, and mastery in an inclusive environment that respects participants’ chosen gender identities.

Judo Program

  • July 25: Multi-Martial Arts Workshops (Pink Power) – Gymnase Charial
  • July 26: Mixed Team Judo Competition – Gymnase Alice Milliat

Events and Rules

The competitions will be held exclusively in mixed teams, allowing athletes to showcase their skills in various aspects of judo:

  • Throws: Techniques to unbalance and take down opponents.
  • Holds: Maintaining control by pinning opponents to the mat.
  • Locks and Strangles: Techniques to force submission.Teams will be formed based on the participants’ chosen gender identity, with no reference to their gender assigned at birth.

Categories and Organization

Participants will be grouped based on:

Weight: Classified into weight categories.

Skill Level (Belt Color):

  • Beginner: White, Yellow, Orange
  • Intermediate: Green, Blue
  • Advanced: Brown, Black

 

🥋 In judo, knockouts are not allowed. / In karate, knockouts are forbidden.

Unfortunately, Judo events are not open to participants with disabilities. However, non-competitive demonstrations may be organized in collaboration with interested athletes. For any adaptation requests or to discuss specific needs, please contact the inclusion team at inclusion@lyon2025.com.

Yes, of course! The competitions are open to spectators. Come and cheer on the teams and athletes and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this inclusive sporting event that celebrates diversity. Admission is free for spectators and the atmosphere is guaranteed!

Participants are divided by :

  • Weight: category according to the fighter’s weight.
  • Level (belt): Beginner (White, Yellow, Orange), Intermediate (Green, Blue), Advanced (Brown, Black).

Unfortunately, the Judo events are not open to participants with disabilities, but out-of-competition demonstrations may be organised in collaboration with the athletes concerned.

Entries are made according to weight category and level (belt colour), either individually or as part of a team.
